The handgun has been in existence for hundreds of years. From medieval hand cannon, the flintlock models of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to the lightweight semi-automatics of the modern era, the handgun has been used for a wide variety of tasks. Though there have been many models produced over the centuries, only a few can be classed as truly outstanding. The World’s Great Handguns is an examination of the most innovative and famous handguns that have been produced around the world. All types of handguns are covered in The World’s Great Handguns, such as revolvers, semi-automatics, sporting handguns and specialist models. Each weapon featured, such as the American Colt M1911, Belgian Browning High Power, German Luger, and American Smith & Wesson Magnum, is examined in great detail, with particular emphasis on its development, unique design features and, where appropriate, combat capabilities. In addition, The World’s Great Handguns compares each weapon featured against its main rivals from other countries and manufacturers. The World’s Great Handguns is illustrated with 120 full-colour artworks, many detailed cutaways which allow the reader to examine internal mechanisms up close, and 80 colour and black and white photographs. In addition, each full-colour artwork is accompanied by a full specifications table that lists range, feed, dimensions, and muzzle velocity.
