Fighting Techniques of the Early Modern World describes combat when gunpowder replaced steel as the weapon of choice. The book explores the tactics and strategy required to win battles and points out how the development of such weapons technology changed the face of the battlefield.

Divided into five sections, the book examines the individual components of the early modern army, the footsoldier and the mounted soldier, then the impact gunpowder and improved technology on the battlefield, the importance of a general correctly disposing his troops before the battle began, the techniques and equipment developed for artillery and finally naval warfare, from the ships in which the men fought to the weapons they carried and the major battles of the period.

Using more than 100 specially commissioned colour and black-and-white artworks and colour maps to illustrate the battles, equipment and tactics of the era, Fighting Techniques of the Early Modern World shows in detail the methods by which armies gained and lost ascendancy.
