Horses: Looking After and Riding Your Horse

Horses: Looking After and Riding Your Horse provides the perfect introduction to horse riding for children and young adults. The book guides the reader through all stages of learning to ride, starting with the basics of looking after a horse, such as grooming, shoeing and equipment, and progressing through the various aspects of riding, from mounting to jumping. Every spread covers a new aspect of horse care and riding, presented in easy-to-follow steps. Topics such as what to wear around horses, handling a horse and how to put on a bridle and saddle are covered in the early stages. The different speeds of a horse are explored, from walking to trotting, cantering and galloping, then gradually the book moves on to more advanced topics such as riding over obstacles, jumping across water and riding bareback. Both English and Western-style riding are covered, as well as choosing your horse from the many different types and breeds available. Full of expert advice and tips designed to provide variety at every stage, the book covers all the essentials from preparing to ride through to advanced jumping and competitions, and is an ideal guide for young riders everywhere.
